WordPress + BuddyPress = Excellent Social Network Platform

The web is getting social.  Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, orkut and there is long list of social networking tools.  I am big fan of WordPress and I am sure most of us are. I have reviewed and experienced the WordPress from both edge – Development and Customization from developer point of view and Content Publishing and Blog Management from Blog Owner’s end. I have always found it a super easy for developer and blog owner.

I just have an another great reason to love WordPress because now you can build a social network with BuddyPress within WordPress.   BuddyPress – a great plugin developed by Lead Developer Andy Peatling has brought  immense options to add social networking features to a WordPress blog.

BuddyPress - Social networking in a box

BuddyPress is social networking CMS which can be added on top WordPress and built to bring people together. It works well to enable people with similar interests to connect and communicate. Some of the fantastic uses might be:

  1. A campus wide social network for a university, school or college.
  2. An internal communication tool for your company.
  3. A niche social network for your interest topic.
  4. A focused social network for your new product.

This means that bloggers and podcasters using WordPress can now have a self-hosted solution for creating social networks, instead of relying on third-party sites like Ning.

Features of BuddyPress include:

  1. Global, personal and group activity streams
  2. Fully editable profile fields allow you to define the fields users can fill in to describe themselves
  3. Powerful public, private or hidden groups
  4. “Friending”
  5. Private messaging will allow your users to talk to each other directly, and in private.
  6. Full powered discussion forums
  7. Each of your users can start their own full powered WordPress blog.
  8. Easily extendable with plugins

BuddyPress promises to let you get up and running with your own social network in 6 minutes. I have experienced to setup BuddyPress in few of our projects. I found it quite easy and simple. I had also spent a good time to see the plug-in development for BuddyPress. It’s pretty straight forward and similar like WordPress plugin development. Theme development is also something that require a little understanding of BuddyPress standard rest is what in WordPress.

New Name – New Look

Change is good sometime. I had scheduled to give a new name and new cloths to my blog techFreak. But it was get delayed as few other items were always on top of the list. Finally & Happily I got time today to check-off this task from my list today. This is the new AVTAR of my old blog – “techFreak” to “Technopreneur“.

Before one year I was highly engaged and involved to deal with techie stuffs.  But since a year I have been also exploring my dreams and ideas in entrepreneurship. Utterly amazing and simply unexpected experience it is for me to being a Technopreneur. I am relishing  and exploring with allegiance to my new AVATAR – Technopreneur in my blog & in life too.

Time is a big healer

Today in our morning meet at MULTIDOTS, when we done with the prayer and general updates, I thought to discuss on a topic that was dancing on my mind since couple of days.

In our life, sometimes ( actually many times ) we need to face something for which we never wished and expected. When you desired, dreamed or wished for someone or something and you suddenly realize it is not going to be true, it hurts a lot.  Yes, when you will be in love with some one, I know you might have many emotional dreams attached with that, each dream has a beautiful imagination of dreamy life.  But its painful when you realize its not going to be happen. You did whatever possible to make it possible but still at the end you are alone with your dry dreams. Its good to dream but we should not always expect to be it true.

Well, this is not only in love, everyone has their own set of problems, issues and situations. It was not on our hand to correct that situation or to make it favorable. Whatever happened it was happened and only thing you can do is either suffer and spoil your life, days and happiness for the sake of what happens with you or let time spend everything will be alright.  Because “Time is a big healer“.

Yes, Time !  Whenever something wrong or unexpected happens with you just try to remember and find the similar worst situation from your past life and imagine how time heal those wounds. Of course, you might had faced many painful moments, you might have blamed someone/something for all that disaster but just try to think today and now, was it really painful or try to find out what good happens after you faced such sick moments? I am sure you might have something better and good with respect to all bad you had to suffer and face.

So, I asked everyone in my team to share their experience of such moments. Everyone shared their unforgettable ( of course painful too ) moments and also shared what good brought that in their life.  It was a great inspiring discussion for us. I am thankful to everyone for sharing their personal, general and true experience of dam moment.

“Time” is money for someone, besides that its a big healer too.  Many thanks to “TIME“  for healing my wounds and will look forward to be with me and help me to come out of all the painful moments and situations.

Do you want share you thoughts  ideas or experience on this? I would love to hear and answer.

90-10 Principle

Today my friend Kaushik shared a very nice presentation with me. The presentation is about 90-10 Principle by Stephen Covey. I am really impressed and motivated by this principle. A must watch presentation.

Summery
  • In life sometime we face something which was unexpected and obviously painful (10% ).
  • We react on that situation (90%).
  • You won’t have control on 10% which is happening with you and with your life.
  • But you have all the control on 90% that’s how you react on that situation.
  • So prepare your self for 90% . Its a big share of your life in fact.
  • Don’t react negatively on 10% which happened to you.
What do you think?
